Co-director of UNSW Law’s Herbert Smith Freehills China International Business and Economic Law (CIBEL) Centre Associate Professor Heng Wang recently appears in the Fintech Beat podcast to share his opinions on the different positions of China and the U.S. on Fintech.

Associate Professor Wang was interviewed by the Director of Institute of International Economic Law, Georgetown University Law Centre, Professor Chris Brummer while he was in Geneva for the G2 Annual Conference on WTO and Global Economic Regulation earlier this month.

In this 15-minute podcast episode, Associate Professor Wang and Professor Brummer discussed how China and the U.S. compare in developing new digital infrastructures. They also talked about some potential trade restrictions on Fintech and what the WTO has to say about it.

Associate Professor Wang argues that Fintech could provide low-cost solutions to problems in China’s financial services industry and it is also important to the Belt and Road initiative as it deals with payment and data. However, the positions of China and the U.S. is rather different and it faces challenges in terms of regulation.

The Fintech Beat is a podcast program podcast features the latest trends, movers and shakers, ideas and policies in financial technology. It partners with the CQ Roll Call newsroom, which is Washington's leader for nonpartisan legislative and regulatory analysis. The host, Professor Brummer, is a world-renowned Fintech expert. Other interviewees of these series range from the chair of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and European Securities and Markets Authority to the Premier of Bermuda.
