Associate Professor Emma Armson of UNSW Law recently joined the China International Business and Economic Law (CIBEL) Centre as its 8th member. She will be working in the area of corporate and securities law, with a particular focus on takeover regulation and Takeover Panels.

Before joining UNSW, Associate Professor Armson was an academic in the Law Faculties at the University of Sydney and the Australian National University. Prior to this, she had a decade of professional experience in corporate law. This included working on corporate law reform as a senior Federal Government policy officer and practising law as a Senior Associate at Minter Ellison. She has also been an in-house counsel at Westpac Financial Services and a Corporations Law Editor at CCH Australia.

Following research on Australian takeover law and dispute resolution by the Takeovers Panel over many years, Associate Professor Armson is recently conducting comparative research on takeover regulation in Australia, China, Hong Kong and Singapore, and that is why she found the CIBEL Centre attractive.

“The law and practice in China are particularly significant for this research, given that China is the leading emerging economy and now has the second highest levels of announced mergers and acquisitions in the world,” she said.

Associate Professor Armson will join the CIBEL Roadshow during 21st - 29th May to Hong Kong and Singapore, where she will be visiting five overseas universities with the Co-directors of the CIBEL Centre Professor Deborah Healey and Associate Professor Heng Wang and other CIBELers including Associate Professor Xiaochuan Weng, Dr Weihuan Zhou and Dr Lu Wang.

“I look forward to contributing to and learning from the work of the Centre,” Associate Professor Armson said.
