CIBEL member, Dr Lu Wang, has joined the World Bank Group’s International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) as a Scholar in Residence. Notably, she is only the third scholar to hold this position. Dr Wang has previously worked with the Centre as a co-guest editor on the ICSID Review – Foreign Investment Law Journal, which is the world’s leading independent peer-reviewed journal specialising in international investment law and dispute resolution. Her role as Scholar in Residence encompasses a wide range of responsibility, including providing support to ICSID’s publications and research programs and advising the Centre’s Secretariat on topics within her areas of expertise of international law, international investment law and dispute resolution, international arbitration and Chinese regulation of international business. ICSID is one of the five intergovernmental organisations that make up the World Bank Group. The mandate of ICSID is to foster increased flows of international investment by providing an impartial and effective international forum for the resolution of disputes between host governments and foreign investors. Dr Wang has an extensive research and publication history. She holds two PhD from the University of Liverpool in the UK and Xi’an Jianotong University in China. Currently, Dr Wang is on research leave for a project on the interactions between state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and the investment law regime.
