CIBEL would like to welcome Associate Professor Weihuan Zhou as its new Co-Director.

Associate Professor Weihuan Zhou has been a member of CIBEL since its establishment in 2015. Throughout the years he has been an asset to the team, actively participating in events and producing quality research in his areas of expertise.

About Weihuan:

Associate Professor Zhou has a strong background in international economic law, with research particularly focusing on matters involving the World Trade Organisation (WTO), free trade agreements, Customs law, dispute settlement, China’s integration into the world economy and more. His work has been published in some of the world’s most prestigious journals such as the American Journal of International Law, the International & Comparative Law Quarterly, the Journal of International Economic Law, and the China Quarterly. His latest co-authored book investigating ‘Between Market Economy and State Capitalism: China’s State-Owned Enterprises and The World Trading System’ was published by the Cambridge University Press.

World Trade Review:

Associate Professor Zhou has recently been appointed to the Editorial Board of the World Trade Review, one of the best journals in the field of international economic law and the only journal established at the initiative of the Secretariat of the World Trade Organization (WTO) (jointly with Cambridge University Press). The journal publishes cutting-edge academic work “from economic, legal, political and inter-disciplinary perspectives on issues of relevance to the multilateral trading system”, seeking to promote original scholarly contribution, rigorous academic debate and practical solutions. More information about the journal can be found here.

Weihuan is also Co-Secretary of the Society of International Economic Law (SIEL), one of the world’s leading organisations for academics and academically-minded practitioners and officials in international economic law.

What’s in store for CIBEL this year?

“Strategically, while we remain committed to our core research strengths on China, we are now expanding our research focus by looking into the interaction, influence and impact between China, the Asia-Pacific region and globally.” - Associate Professor Weihuan Zhou
